Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Warriors Group

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a diverse cast of characters, and a thrilling plot including celestial beings, fiends, and sinister influences increasing in power within Dol-Makjar.

Warning: Revealing details for Episode 3 of the new season lie ahead.

The Warrior Group Unveiled

The latest chapter finished on a huge suspense moment and revealed the first table of characters who will branch out from the primary party to undertake their independent quest, separate from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team features the determined fighter (played by Travis), the agile character (the talented performer), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie).

Dividing the Cast

With a large ensemble, it was clear from the outset that having everyone at one table would be unworkable.

That’s why, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Prelude, connecting the characters’ stories before dividing into three separate parties: Warriors, Strategists, and Questers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

Per the DM, the combat-focused party is for players who enjoy a typically action-packed battle-oriented narrative style where peaceful solutions are rare.

At first glance, figures such as the hesitant healer the cleric might seem out of place, but the developments of the latest installment make it clear why these five characters are best suited for the combat party.

Motivations for Departure

For one thing, the group understands precisely where to head next after a intense initial meeting with the antagonists.

Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose death started the campaign’s events—exploited The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, entering the secret base, striking Thimble, and swiping all the powerful objects to dispose of.

Casimir then paid off his liabilities and fled to a fortified location in the remote area, above the urban center, with Cyd hot on his heels.

Personal Motivations

Secondly, each character has a personal reason to exit the metropolitan area:

  • The agile hero, as the close ally and closest confidant, wants revenge.
  • The adventurer is familiar with Timmony and advises that it is a nasty environment.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having defied his house’s orders to execute the fighter and instead rescued him, have no other options.
  • Yet, their status as key figures in House Halovar could help the group reach places they usually can’t.
  • Furthermore, Teor vowed a life debt to The cleric for his deliverance and will now go with him wherever.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are wanted by the authorities that rule the city for a range of causes, making lingering locally too risky:

  • The rogue and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
  • The warrior and The cleric betrayed House Halovar and the legion of demons they are allied with.
  • The target is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This means them few options but to travel to the remote area in search of Casimir.

What’s Next?

According to episode three’s follow-up content, we find out that the combat party will not appear next week, leaving the other eight participants to assemble the Seekers and Schemers parties.

Fans can anticipate learning which characters will be in which group in the story’s final introductory chapter, streaming live on October 24.
